chkdsk at startup

chkdsk won't run at startup. Vista Business SP1, Lenovo 30000 N100.

I've tried everything I've found on
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-chkdsk.html and other
web pages, including:

- command line chkdsk c: /F
- sfc /scannow
- chkntfs (which says C: is dirty)
- changing registry .../Session Manager/BootExedute value
to "autocheck autochk *"
- replacing autochk.exe with 6.0.6001.18000 version
- safe mode boot & command line chkdsk c: /F

Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

No, I don't have the install disk. :-(

I really need to defrag, but can't since the drive is dirty.

I have seen chkdsk fail because the drive is faulty to the point where
chkdsk can not even run. You can "maybe" check the drive using the
manufacturer supplied drive check utility but I have seen even these fail to
run.

In my case, I just replaced the drive.

Thanks. I sure hope that's not it. It is still running Vista, etc., just
not as well as I'd like. Getting Vista installed on a new drive is not
something I'd prefer to do, without the original install media.

To show what is sometimes necessary:

I just cleared a problem with my G: drive. Chkdsk kept showing uncorrectable
errors. I copies all the data from G: drive to an external drive. I then
deleted all partitions from the G: drive. I recreated a new partition and
copied everything back from the external drive.

The problem is gone! Drive G: is clean.
